This is Charlie. He was a coal miner in the north east of England. This paper portrait is made from a snap taken of him at work in the mines in the 1950s. I like the picture because he's very much in his world - almost heedless of the photo that's being taken - secure in his position and work. His granddaughter, Sue, commissioned me to make this portrait for her mother as a special reminder of her much-loved dad.
